Music for Woodwinds is focus of Nov. 19 concert

The First Methodist Church of Elgin provides an intimate setting for the ESO’s Nov. 19 concert, Music for Woodwinds.

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will present a program featuring the Orchestra’s woodwind section on Sunday, Nov. 19, at First United Methodist Church of Elgin, 216 E. Highland Ave. Pieces featured in this intimate performance will include Maurice Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte, Richard Strauss’ Serenade in E-flat major, and Mozart’s Serenade No. 12 in C minor, K. 388, as well as works by Gaetano Donizetti and Henri Marteau.

The 2:30 p.m. concert will be conducted by Matthew Sheppard, artistic director of the Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra and music director of the University of Chicago Chamber Orchestra and the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company of Chicago.
