Meet Caroline Slack, violinist

Caroline Slack joins ESO’s Second Violin Section

“I’m thrilled to be named one of the newest members of the Elgin Symphony Orchestra, joining the second violin section. After playing with the Elgin Symphony for many years as a substitute, it means so much to me to finally call this my home orchestra,” said Caroline Slack, who won her spot in the ESO after blind auditions in the fall. “The ESO is filled with talented, dedicated and collaborative musicians and I’m honored to join them as a colleague. I look forward to years of music-making together and bringing exciting performances to our community.”

In addition to the ESO, Caroline is a member of the Chicago Sinfonietta, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra, Britt Festival Orchestra, and Des Moines Metro Opera.

A native of Washington state, she began playing the violin when she was eight years old, studying the Suzuki Violin Method.

When asked about what she likes best about performing for a live audience, Caroline said, “I love performing in front of live audiences because having an audience present creates a unique collective human experience, where we get to share and explore the complex world of music together.”
