Kate Carter

First Violin

Kate Carter is a Chicago-based violinist who enjoys a varied career as a performer, recording artist, chamber music collaborator, teacher, and clinician. A member of the Elgin Symphony and the Chicago Philharmonic, she also performs regularly with the Lyric Opera Orchestra, Joffrey Ballet, and many other groups in the Chicago area. She has shared the stage with artists including Andrea Bocelli, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Michael Bublé, Renée Fleming, Kenny Loggins, and Barbra Streisand. Her recording credits include two critically acclaimed albums for violin and piano with her ensemble Blue Violet Duo, available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and other major platforms. The duo have performed on series including the Dame Myra Hess concerts broadcast live on WFMT radio, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s “Overture Council,” and at Weill Hall in New York.

Other recording credits include Grammy-nominated ensembles Camerata Chicago, Ensemble Nouvelle Epoque, and Chicago Jazz Philharmonic. A champion of new music, Kate has performed in the premieres of many new works for small ensemble.

A dedicated instructor, Dr. Carter teaches violin and viola at North Park University and the Northwestern University Music Academy, and she gives clinics and master classes regularly throughout the US. Dr. Carter holds degrees in music from Northwestern University and the Eastman School of Music. A California native, she is proud to call Chicago her adopted hometown.
